To help you prepare for the North Carolina real state exam, we included information on how to schedule your exam, the exam’s format, and what you’ll be tested on. Now, all that's left to do is study with the best exam prep in the nation!
Applicants can apply online for eligibility to take the real estate exam with the North Carolina Real Estate Commission by going to the following site: NCREC Online License Application. First-time users will need to create an account.
The North Carolina real estate exam is administered by PSI. Once a candidate has received notice of eligibility from the Real Estate Commission, they can go to the following site to schedule their exam: www.psiexams.com/ncre. Candidates may also call to schedule their exam at the following number: 855-579-4638.
Current Processing Timeframes: Licenses are usually processed within 7-10 days.
Broker Exam: (North Carolina is a broker-only state; there is only one real estate exam)
The exam is given in multiple-choice format and by computer.
The exam consists of a national portion and a state-specific portion. There are 120 total questions, which includes 80 questions in the national portion and 40 questions in the state portion. Candidates have 2.5 hours to complete the national portion and 1.5 hours to complete the state portion.
The exam can be taken at the following locations: Asheville, Charlotte, Fayetteville, Greenville, Raleigh, Wilmington, and Winston-Salem.

A passing score is 57 correct answers on the national portion and 29 correct answers on the state portion.
All candidates are required to bring 1 form of valid, signature-bearing identification that includes a photograph. The name on the identification must match the name on the candidate's registration. The identification can by any of the following:
Student ID and employment ID are NOT acceptable forms of identification. Military IDs may only be used by candidates who choose to take the exam at a testing center; military IDs cannot be used for remote proctoring check-in.
No temporary ID will be accepted.
