The real estate license exam is administered by PearsonVue. Candidates can schedule an appointment to take the exam by going to the following website Candidates may also call (800) 274-5992 to schedule the exam.

Current processing time: The Alabama Real EstateCommission takes approximately 2-4 weeks to process license applications.

Salesperson Exam

• An applicant must provide proof of high school graduation or GRE and:
• Provide proof of having completed 60 hours of pre-licensure courses
• Submit fingerprint-based background check. Fingerprints must then be professionally rolled and submitted.
• Pay fee of $210
• An applicant must not have had a real estate license rejected or revoked in any state within the past two years
• An applicant must not have been convicted of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude
• Provide documentation that the applicant is over the age of 19
• Provide proof of US citizenship, resident alien status, or legal presence in the US
• Provide proof of bona fide residency in any US state
• All application materials must be submitted to the Alabama Real Estate Commission within 90 days of the exam date. The 90-day period begins with the examination date.

Broker Exam

• An applicant must be at least 19 years old and:
• Provide proof of US citizenship, permanent resident alien status, or legal presence in the US
• Provide proof of bona fide residency in any state in the US
• Provide proof of high school graduation or GRE
• Pay fee of $210
• An applicant must not have been convicted of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude
• An applicant must not have had a real estate application or license rejected or revoked in any state within the past two years
• An applicant must meet the education or experience requirements and pass the licensing examination
• An applicant must have completed an approved 60- hour pre-licensure course
• An applicant must have held an active real estate salesperson license in any state for at least 24 months of the 36 months preceding the date of application.

Salesperson Examination: There are two portions and examinees have 3.5 hours to complete 140 multiple choice questions. 

Broker Examination: The broker exam consists of 40 multiple choice questions for the state portion, which must be completed in 60 minutes. The national broker portion of the exam consists of 80 multiple choice questions  which must be completed in 2.5 hours.

Exams will be administered at PearsonVue Testing Centers throughout the state of Alabama.

Salesperson Examination: A passing score on the Salesperson examination is 70% or higher.

Broker Examination: A passing score on the Broker examination is 70% or higher.

All applicants are required to bring two forms of identification. The primary form must be government issued and include the applicant's name, signature, and photograph. This can be one of the following:

• Driver's License
• State Identification Card
• Passport
• Military Identification

The secondary form of identification must include the applicant's name and signature for signature verification.
