Sign up for the required number of CE hours specific to your state’s regulations before your license renewal deadline. Each state mandates different requirements, typically including a mix of mandatory and elective courses to keep you informed about updates in laws, ethics, and industry standards.
CE courses can typically be completed online, in-person, or through live virtual formats, depending on your state’s approved options. Ensure you fulfill both core and elective requirements within the designated timeframe, covering subjects relevant to your practice and state guidelines.
After completing the courses, your education provider will usually report your credits directly to your state’s real estate licensing authority. Be sure to keep your certificates of completion and renew your license through your state’s portal before it expires to stay in compliance.

In Minnesota, real estate professionals must complete 30 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years to maintain an active license. This typically includes an annual mandatory module (updated each license cycle) covering topics such as agency law, fair housing, and other regulatory changes. The remaining hours can be completed through approved elective courses on subjects like ethics, property management, and real estate marketing.
Minnesota also requires licensees to complete 15 of the 30 hours by June 30 of the first year in the two-year renewal cycle. All 30 hours must be finalized by June 30 of the second year. Licensees who fail to meet these deadlines may face late fees or have their licenses placed on inactive status. To reactivate an inactive license, all outstanding CE requirements must be met and any applicable fees must be paid. Licensees should verify the most current CE requirements with the Minnesota Department of Commerce or an approved education provider.
