Louisiana Real Estate Exam Details
To help you prepare for the Louisiana real state exam, we included information on how to schedule your exam, the exam’s format, and what you’ll be tested on. Now, all that's left to do is study with the best exam prep in the nation!
The Louisiana real estate examination is administered by Pearson VUE. Applicants should make a reservation to take the exam by visiting the site or by calling Pearson VUE at 877-619-2096. Reservations should be made at least 24 hours prior to the desired examination date.

Salesperson Exam
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and:
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must show proof of having completed 90 hours of real estate education in courses approved by the Louisiana Real Estate Commission
- Must comply with all application procedures required by the Louisiana Real Estate Commission
- Must complete a background check, which can be ordered through the MyLREC portal
- Must be supervised by a licensed real estate broker
- Must provide proof of errors and omissions insurance prior to being licensed
- Must provide authorization from the Louisiana Real Estate Commission that the applicant is authorized to sit for the real estate exam
- Must pay exam fee ($78)
Broker Exam
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and:
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must have been actively licensed, in any state/jurisdiction, for at least four years, with two of the four years immediately preceding submission of a broker license application
- Must show proof of successful completion of 150 classroom hours or its equivalent in courses specified and approved by the Louisiana Real Estate Commission
- Must comply with all application procedures required by the Louisiana Real Estate Commission
- Must successfully pass the broker licensing examination
- Must complete a background check, which can be ordered through the MyLREC portal
- Must provide proof of errors and omissions insurance
- Must pay exam fee ($78)
Salesperson Examination: The salesperson exam consists of a national and a state portion. The national portion has 80 questions and candidates have 150 minutes to complete it. The state portion has 55 questions and candidates have 90 minutes to complete it.
Broker Examination: The broker exam consists of a national and a state portion. The national portion has 80 questions and candidates have 150 minutes to complete that portion. The state portion has 55 questions and candidates have 90 minutes to complete it.
The exam is multiple-choice and is given by computer. It can be taken at the following locations: Baton Rouge, Metairie, New Orleans, Shreveport, Addis, Alexandria, Bossier City, Lafayette, Lake Charles, and Natchitoches.
There are multiple versions of each exam, each with varying degrees of difficulty. To ensure that no candidate has an unfair advantage or disadvantage, a statistical procedure known as equating is used to correct for differences in difficulty. Raw scores are converted into scaled scores from 0 to 100.
Salesperson Examination: A candidate needs to have a scaled score of 70 or higher on both portions of the exam in order to pass.
Broker Examination: A candidate needs to have a scaled score of 75 or higher on both portions of the exam in order to pass.
All applicants are required to provide 1 form of current, government-issued identification that includes a signature and a photograph. The name on the identification must match the name on the registration. This can be any of the following:
- Government-issued Driver's License
- US Dept. of State Driver's License
- US Learner's Permit
- National/State/Country ID card
- Passport
- Passport card
- Military ID
- Military ID for spouses or dependents
- Alien Registration Card
