Sign up for the required number of CE hours specific to your state’s regulations before your license renewal deadline. Each state mandates different requirements, typically including a mix of mandatory and elective courses to keep you informed about updates in laws, ethics, and industry standards.
CE courses can typically be completed online, in-person, or through live virtual formats, depending on your state’s approved options. Ensure you fulfill both core and elective requirements within the designated timeframe, covering subjects relevant to your practice and state guidelines.
After completing the courses, your education provider will usually report your credits directly to your state’s real estate licensing authority. Be sure to keep your certificates of completion and renew your license through your state’s portal before it expires to stay in compliance.

IOWA REAL ESTATE LICENSE RENEWAL
In Iowa, real estate professionals (both salespersons and brokers) are required to complete 36 hours of continuing education (CE) every three years to maintain their active licenses. This requirement includes 8 hours of Law Update, 4 hours of Ethics, and 24 hours of Commission-approved electives. Of these 36 hours, a minimum of 12 hours must be completed through live instruction, while the remaining can be done through distance learning.
All CE requirements must be met by December 31st of the license renewal year, and there is no grace period for completing the courses after the license expiration date. Licensees can opt to take and pass the licensing exam instead of completing CE requirements to renew their licenses.
