Sign up for the required number of CE hours specific to your state’s regulations before your license renewal deadline. Each state mandates different requirements, typically including a mix of mandatory and elective courses to keep you informed about updates in laws, ethics, and industry standards.
CE courses can typically be completed online, in-person, or through live virtual formats, depending on your state’s approved options. Ensure you fulfill both core and elective requirements within the designated timeframe, covering subjects relevant to your practice and state guidelines.
After completing the courses, your education provider will usually report your credits directly to your state’s real estate licensing authority. Be sure to keep your certificates of completion and renew your license through your state’s portal before it expires to stay in compliance.

In Hawaii, real estate licensees must complete 20 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years to maintain an active license.
Of these 20 hours, 6 hours must be dedicated to the Commission-mandated Core Courses, which cover important updates to Hawaii’s real estate laws, administrative rules, and industry best practices. The remaining 14 hours may be completed through elective courses covering various real estate topics.
Hawaii’s renewal cycle ends on December 31 of even-numbered years, but licensees are encouraged to finish their CE requirements by November 30 of the renewal year to ensure timely processing. Failure to complete the required CE by the renewal deadline will result in the license being placed on inactive status. To reactivate an inactive license, all outstanding CE hours must be completed and any applicable reactivation fees must be paid.
