Minnesota Real Estate Exam Details
To help you prepare for the Minnesota real state exam, we included information on how to schedule your exam, the exam’s format, and what you’ll be tested on. Now, all that's left to do is study with the best exam prep in the nation!
How do I apply for the exam?
Minnesota's real estate exams are administered by PSI. Candidates can schedule their exams by visiting PSI Exams or by calling PSI Services at (866) 395-1006. It's recommended to make reservations at least 24 hours in advance of the desired exam date.
Salesperson Exam
All candidates must be at least 18 years of age and:
- Complete 90 hours of pre-license education, divided into three 30-hour courses: Course I, Course II, and Course III.
- Course I must be completed before taking the salesperson's exam.
- Courses II and III must be completed before applying for a license.
- Pass both the state and national portions of the salesperson's exam.
- Become associated with a licensed real estate broker, who will submit the application for the candidate's license.
- Submit fingerprints for a background check.
- Pay the exam fee ($63) and license fee ($110).
Broker Exam
All candidates must be at least 18 years of age and:
- Have a minimum of three years of licensed experience as a real estate salesperson within the last five years in Minnesota or another state with comparable requirements.
- Successfully complete the 30-hour broker education course.
- Pass both the state and national portions of the broker's exam.
- Apply for a license as a primary broker or become associated with a licensed primary broker.
- Pay the exam fee ($63) and the license fee ($190).
How many questions are on the exam, and how long does it last?
Salesperson Examination
- National Portion: 80 scored questions plus 5 pretest (unscored) questions. Candidates have 2.5 hours to complete this portion.
- State Portion: 50 scored questions plus 5-10 pretest (unscored) questions. Candidates have 1.5 hours to complete this portion.
Broker Examination
- National Portion: 80 scored questions plus 5 pretest (unscored) questions. Candidates have 2.5 hours to complete this portion.
- State Portion: 60 scored questions plus 5-10 pretest (unscored) questions. Candidates have 1.5 hours to complete this portion.

All candidates must provide two forms of identification. Both forms must be current, have matching names, and contain a valid signature. Acceptable forms include:
- Driver’s license
- Passport
- Green card
- Social Security card
- Debit or credit card (with signature)
Additionally, candidates should bring:
- A basic (non-scientific) calculator
- Proof of pre-license education
