Maine Real Estate Continuing Education Course

In Maine, real estate brokers and designated brokers must fulfill specific continuing education (CE) requirements every two years to keep their licenses active.

Brokers must complete a total of 21 hours of CE, which includes:

• A 3-hour mandatory Core Course designated for brokers and associate brokers.
• The remaining 18 hours in elective topics approved by the Maine Real Estate Commission.

Designated Brokers are also required to complete 21 hours of CE every two years. However:

• Their 3-hour mandatory Core Course is specifically designed for designated brokers and focuses on supervisory and management responsibilities.
• The remaining 18 hours can be fulfilled through commission-approved elective courses.

Maine real estate licenses generally expire two years from the date of issuance. If licensees do not complete the required CE by the expiration date, they may renew late with an additional fee within a specified grace period; otherwise, their license will become inactive or expire. To reactivate an inactive license, all overdue CE must be completed and any applicable fees must be paid.
