Sign up for the required number of CE hours specific to your state’s regulations before your license renewal deadline. Each state mandates different requirements, typically including a mix of mandatory and elective courses to keep you informed about updates in laws, ethics, and industry standards.
CE courses can typically be completed online, in-person, or through live virtual formats, depending on your state’s approved options. Ensure you fulfill both core and elective requirements within the designated timeframe, covering subjects relevant to your practice and state guidelines.
After completing the courses, your education provider will usually report your credits directly to your state’s real estate licensing authority. Be sure to keep your certificates of completion and renew your license through your state’s portal before it expires to stay in compliance.

In Maine, real estate brokers and designated brokers must fulfill specific continuing education (CE) requirements every two years to keep their licenses active.
Brokers must complete a total of 21 hours of CE, which includes:
Designated Brokers are also required to complete 21 hours of CE every two years. However:
Maine real estate licenses generally expire two years from the date of issuance. If licensees do not complete the required CE by the expiration date, they may renew late with an additional fee within a specified grace period; otherwise, their license will become inactive or expire. To reactivate an inactive license, all overdue CE must be completed and any applicable fees must be paid. Licensees should consult the Maine Real Estate Commission or an approved education provider for the most current information on mandatory courses, renewal processes, and fees.
