Sign up for the required number of CE hours specific to your state’s regulations before your license renewal deadline. Each state mandates different requirements, typically including a mix of mandatory and elective courses to keep you informed about updates in laws, ethics, and industry standards.
CE courses can typically be completed online, in-person, or through live virtual formats, depending on your state’s approved options. Ensure you fulfill both core and elective requirements within the designated timeframe, covering subjects relevant to your practice and state guidelines.
After completing the courses, your education provider will usually report your credits directly to your state’s real estate licensing authority. Be sure to keep your certificates of completion and renew your license through your state’s portal before it expires to stay in compliance.

In Rhode Island, real estate professionals must complete 24 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years, comprising a 9-hour core course covering specific state-mandated topics and 15 hours of electives.
The renewal deadline generally falls on April 30, by which time all CE must be completed. Licensees who fail to meet this requirement risk being placed on inactive status and may need to fulfill additional obligations, such as paying fees or completing extra coursework, before they can return to active practice.
No carryover of unused hours is permitted; each renewal cycle requires its own 24-hour set of CE credits. By staying current with the 9-hour core course and 15 elective hours, Rhode Island licensees ensure they meet state regulations, maintain an active license, and continue serving clients without disruption.
