Hawaii Real Estate Exam Details
To help you prepare for the Hawaii real state exam, we included information on how to schedule your exam, the exam’s format, and what you’ll be tested on. Now, all that's left to do is study with the best exam prep in the nation!
Candidates can schedule the real estate exam with PSI Services by calling 855-579-4640 or online.
Applications for Hawaii real estate licenses are distributed at the test site to candidates who pass the exam. Applications must be submitted to the Real Estate Commission within 2 years. Candidates who do not submit the application within 2 years will be required to retake the exam.

Salesperson Exam
- An applicant must be at least 18 years old and:
- Must be a US citizen, a US national, or an alien authorized to work in the US by the examination date
- Must provide their Social Security number
- Must possess a reputation for honesty and competency
- Must submit an application for a license within two years of passing the exam
- Must successfully pass the real estate exam
- Must pay the license fee of $382 (odd-numbered year) or $282 (even-numbered year)
- Must complete the appropriate salesperson or broker Commission-approved pre-license course given in Hawaii prior to the exam or apply for an obtain a "Pre-licensing Education Equivalency” in real estate. These equivalencies can include any of the following: Holding a current license that was active within 1 year immediately prior to the date of application as a salesperson or broker in another state with similar or superior pre-licensing education requirements; Holding a degree from an accredited law school in the United States; Holding a Bachelor of arts or science degree from an accredited college or university in the US; the degree must be in real estate or business (salesperson candidate only)
Broker Exam
- An applicant must be at least 18 years old

- Must pay the license fee: Broker in a corporation or partnership--$486 (odd-numbered year) or $349 (even-numbered year); Broker”sole proprietor--$65 (in any year); Broker-Salesperson--$382 (odd-numbered year) or $282 (even-numbered year)
- Must complete the appropriate salesperson or broker Commission-approved pre-license course given in Hawaii prior to the exam or apply for an obtain a Pre-licensing Education Equivalency” Real Estate. These equivalencies can include any of the following:; Holding a current license that was active within 1 year immediately prior to the date of application as a salesperson or broker in another state with similar or superior pre-licensing education requirements; Holding a degree from an accredited law school in the United States; Holding a Bachelor of arts or science degree from an accredited college or university in the US; the degree must be in real estate or business (salesperson candidate only)
- Must hold a current, unencumbered Hawaii real estate salesperson license, or a current, unencumbered real estate salesperson or broker license in another state or jurisdiction recognized by the Association of Real Estate License Law Officials, with an equivalent real estate licensing law as determined by the Real Estate Commission
- Must have experience as a full-time Hawaii-licensed real estate salesperson associated with a Hawaii-licensed real estate broker for at least 3 years in the 5-year period immediately prior to the submission of the “Application for Experience Real Estate Broker and has practical real estate salesperson experience as certified by the principal broker or brokers in charge.
- Must pass the broker's license examination
Salesperson Examination:
General knowledge: 80 questions, 150 minutes
State-specific: 50 questions, 90 minutes
Combo (Both portions): 130 questions, 240 minutes
Broker Examination:
General Knowledge: 80 questions, 150 minutes
State-specific: 50 questions, 90 minutes
Combo (Both portions): 130 questions, 240 minutes
The exams are multiple-choice and are given on a computer.

Salesperson Examination: The exam consists of 80 general questions and 50 state-specific questions. A passing score is 70% correct answers.
Broker Examination: The exam consists of 80 general questions and 50 state-specific questions. A passing score is 75% correct answers.
All candidates are required to bring 2 forms of identification. These should be current, have matching names, and contain a valid signature. These can be any of the following:
- Driver's license
- Passport
- Green card
- Social Security card
- Debit or credit card with signature
